The second half of the CD features collaborative works written by Folias during their 2007 Summer Artists-In-Residence stay on Isle Royale National Park. The CD was recorded on September 21 and 22, 2007 in Lansing, in the Blue Griffin Recording Ballroom.

Carmen Maret and Andrew Bergeron… here showcase their talents and interests… they are facile players… They draw on tango rhythms and melodies sometimes; at other times they write with a scenic sensitivity… mysterious… charming… evocative..”

tangos

Carmen Maret, flute & Andrew Bergeron, guitar

Folias’ debut CD, Tangos Metamorphoses, was released January of 2004 on the Bluegriffin label based in Lansing, Michigan. Recorded by Sergei Kvitko.

This collection of music features Astor Piazzola’s History of Tango, a piece for flute and guitar that remains a standard in the classical world; Andrew Bergeron’s piece, Three Metamophoses, an improvisational work originally for voice and guitar that is here arranged for flute and guitar; folias’ arrangements of standard Argentine tango; and, a beautiful version for guitar and alto flute of the famous waltz Alfonsina y el Mar.

“Here is something most folks don’t get enough of, Argentine tango music especially pieces performed beautifully by East Lansing’s Carmen Maret (flute) and Andrew Bergeron (guitar) who have brought this entertaining/soothing genre as of late to West Michigan’s Mezze Café.”
